FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: heat insulation of hearth pipes has U-shaped protective casing made of heat-resistant metal possessing low thermal conductivity and inner projections with flat bearing surfaces resting on fins welded to the hearth pipe and metal inserts non-detachably connected with protective casing secured on hearth pipe by means of plates welded to either side of pipe and to inserts. Clearance between U-shaped protective casing and hearth pipe is filled with fibrous heat-insulating material in the amount about 0.15 to 0.25 outer diameter of hearth pipe. EFFECT: enhanced resistance of insulation reaching two and more years of operation and reduction of heat losses by more than 15%. 1 dwg
