FIELD: catalytic reaction. SUBSTANCE: contact apparatus has preferably cylindrical housing with a cover, branch pipes for supplying and discharging gas, and ring-shaped catalyzing box positioned inside the housing. The box includes the inner and outer perforated shells. Spiral baffles are mounted inside the box over the whole height. The space between the baffles is filled with catalyzer. The baffles are provided with passages combined with collectors for supplying and discharging gas. The ring- shaped basket is arranged coaxially to the box and axis of the apparatus upstream of the catalyzing box. The basket is filled with a catalyzer. The internal and outer walls of the basket are perforated. In addition, the ring-shaped basket is detachable and provided with cord devices. The cover of the detachable basket is tightly secured to the cover of the catalyzing box. The housing is coated from outside with a heat insulating layer. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency. 3 cl, 3 dwg
