FIELD: glass production. SUBSTANCE: method involves thermic decomposition of iron fluoroammonium complexes of the general formula (NH4)xFeF2x where 2≅ x≅ 3 in atmosphere of elemental fluorine at 400-500 C. Method ensures to prepare iron trifluoride with crystalline modification without impurity of divalent iron by a single stage, without additional purification, at relatively low temperatures.
