FIELD: welding. SUBSTANCE: at least three pickups are placed in contact plate at certain heights from its lower cut. Temperature on jacket of self-burnt electrode during operation of furnace is measured, converted into signal proportional to temperature inside electrode over its height corresponding to setting of temperature pickups. It is compared with specified signal obtained in advance and by its deviation one defines zone of carbonization inside electrode. By ratio of these signals one determines degree of carbonization of electrode. Depending on obtained results control system is fed with signal for control over electrode. EFFECT: enhanced authenticity of determination of internal state of electrode. 2 dwg, 3 tbl
