FIELD: textile industry. SUBSTANCE: vinyl unsaturated carboxylic acid is grafted on cellulose-containing fabric, then compound having antimicrobial cathion is applied. The process is followed by fixation with the help of steaming. Material is treated by aqueous solution which contains 30-100 g/l of triethanolamine or its chloride or by tris-(2-hydroxyethyl)methylammonium methylsulfate. Said process is carried out before or simultaneously with applying of antimicrobial material or after its fixation. Itaconic acid or (meth)acrylic acid and derivatives of guanidine or tertiary ammonium base are used as mentioned above antimicrobial compound. EFFECT: improves efficiency of the method. 6 cl, 1 tbl
