FIELD: electrical engineering. SUBSTANCE: to preserve insulation forced blowing through and heating of electrical machines and devices of locomotives are effected by air from surrounding medium and processes are carried out in cycles in steps with increase in temperature of heating. Duration of blowing through at each step is 2-5 times longer than duration of preceding step of heating, depending on operating temperature of air and condition of insulation which are checked at each step of blowing through. If time of blowing through is less than recommended, moisture from air is not completely evacuated during process of ventilation, and if blowing through time exceeds recommended value, process of ventilation proves inefficient as it does not provide noticeable increase in quality of ventilation as compared with above indicated periods.
