FIELD: medicine; pharmacology. SUBSTANCE: method involves treating cellulose with iodine derivatives followed by its oxidation with liquid nitrogen oxides at T=20-25 C in the methylene chloride environment during 45-50 h. Various kinds cellulose raw material are useable (cotton cellulose, wood celluloses, such as blanched cellulose in the form of braids, sulfate cellulose, sulfite cellulose, blanched purified cellulose, gauze bandage and cotton wool rejects). The so obtained vocacyte biosorbent has a number of unique physical, chemical and biological properties determining its high selectivity in binding radionuclides and heavy metal salts in vivo. EFFECT: wider range of practical applications as non- toxic protection remedy in the cases of radionuclide, mercury, antimony, other heavy metal salts intoxication and poisoning with various substitutes. 1 tbl
