FIELD: chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: method involves contacting of hydrogen containing ortho-hydrogen under cryogenic conditions at the volume rate (4-10) x (4-10)×104 h-1 in the presence of granulated catalyst on the basis of trivalent transient metal hydroxide of hexagonal polymorphic modification of the general formula α-FexMe(1-x)O(OH) where Me rare-earth metal of lanthanum group, X 0.88-0.99; α crystal lattice type. Used catalyst is activated preliminary in hydrogen flow at 383-423 K. Catalyst granules made of indicated hydroxide, preferably Me Gd, Dy, Te. Method is used for liquid hydrogen producing.
