FIELD: production of metallic scandium. SUBSTANCE: reduction is conducted with finely divided lithium taken in excess under conditions of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis with starting reagent mixture heated up to 200-400 C. Reduction reaction products are treated with methanol at temperature of methanol boiling with subsequent separation of scandium in form of powder which is washed from ions of lithium, chlorine and scandium (+3) by means of methanol. Drying is carried out in vacuum at 100-150 C. For carried out in vacuum not less than 1,3 Pа(10-2 mm Hg). EFFECT: higher efficiency. 3 cl
