FIELD: heat power engineering. SUBSTANCE: starting and synchronizing of steam turbine unit, which has control system with a mechanism for controlling the turbine and power limiter, is carried out by changing speed of rotation of the rotor of the turbo-generator by changing steam supply into the turbine with controlling valves and changing brake moment or torque of the generator using thyristor converter. As soon as the speed of rotation begins to exceed the critical speed, which is nearest to the synchronous speed but differ from it by the value which is no less than the value of insensitivity of the control system, position of the valves are fixed and one increases speed of rotation up to the synchronous mean by smooth decreasing of the brake moment created by the frequency converter.
