FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: process of assembling pipes for welding is carried out with the measurement of the supply length, and a signal is shaped for installing the pipe face ends along the electrode axle of the welding head. The value of noncoincidence of the welded edges is measured. The measured value is compared with that of the tolerable noncoincidence of the edges built into the memory of the control device. The signal regulating the value of noncoincidence of edges is shaped by means of turning one of the pipes relative to another and shifting one pipe relative to another in the plane of measuring the value of the edge noncoincidence towards decreasing this value up to the given tolerable one in the memory of the control device. The welding process is carried out with the local blowing off of the melting zone by the inert gas from the inside and on the outside of the joint and using the regime of temporary weld, in case one pipe is shifted relative to another one in the plane of measuring the value of the edge shifting. The welding process is combined with the process of quality control of the weld beginning from the welding of the second pipe joint. In this case the device for the method realization has an electromagnetic coupling for connecting the drive shafts of rotators for the combined and separate rotation of spindles with three-jawed chucks. One of the chucks of each spindle is equipped with the pickup of the position control of the cam drive nest. The drives of the angular and longitudinal supply of pipes are equipped with position pickups. The mechanism for controlling the coaxiality of pipes has spring-loaded rods contacting with the surface of articles. EFFECT: facilitated manufacture. 2 cl, 8 dwg
