FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: friction surfaces are worked by hones whose hardness is 3 to 5 times lower than that of the worked surface. The working process continues until a profile consisting of flat sections with a low height of microirregularities, forming the bearing surface, and deep notches are obtained on the surface. The relative bearing surface at the level of profile section p1 from the line of the maximum projection should make up 50 to 75% and that at the level of profile section p2 from the line of the maximum projection 10 to 30% with the maximum width of the notches at level p1, not exceeding 100μk. The pressure of hone clamping to the worked surface makes up 2-6 kg/cm2. The hones have the following composition, mass percent: copper - 40.0 to 75.0; low-melting-point metal 2.0 to 17.0; antifriction material 2.0 to 10.0; finely divided abrasive material 10. to 40.0; stiffener 2.0 to 10.0. EFFECT: facilitated procedure. 2 cl, 1 tbl
