DIESEL ENGINE ELECTRIC STARTING SYSTEM Russian patent published in 1995 - IPC

FIELD: railway transport; diesel locomotive electrical equipment. SUBSTANCE: system has storage battery, capacitive integrator made around, for instance, ultra high power capacitors, and starter-generator connected to battery when ENGINE START button is pressed on after operation of engine starting unit with actuating contactor. Integrator is charged from storage battery through current-limiting resistor and starter-generator when control circuit of thyristor is turned on. When contact of contactor is closed, thyristor is disabled and integrator gets connected to starter-generator through diode in parallel with storage battery. At the end of starting, contact of contactor opens, and integrator gets disconnected from storage battery and from starter-generator. Till subsequent starting of diesel engine integrator is kept charged to low voltage state. EFFECT: increased service life of integrator and power source as a whole owing to reduction of charge voltage between startings of diesel engine. 1 dwg
