FIELD: transport engineering; electrical equipment of vehicles. SUBSTANCE: proposed starting system of locomotive diesel engine has storage battery, device to disconnect storage battery from locomotive circuit, traction generator, starting contactors, capacitive energy accumulator made in form of parallel or parallel-series connected capacitors with double electric layer into charging circuit of which the following devices are connected: thyristor, and current-limiting resistor, diode shunting charging circuit in case of flow of discharge current of capacitive energy accumulator, and contact element for cutting in thyristor. System is provided with additional contact switch of supply circuit of capacitive energy accumulator, energy accumulator charge indicator and discharge resistor connected to capacitive accumulator. Contact element for cutting in thyristor is made in form of separate switch located on one panel with charge indicator and energy accumulator supply circuit which, and said panel can be installed in high-voltage chamber of locomotive.
