CROSSHEAD UNIT Russian patent published in 1995 - IPC

FIELD: engine engineering. SUBSTANCE: crosshead unit has multi-jaw rod 1 with heads 2 fastened with covers 3 by bolts 4 and jaw connecting rod 5 engaging with rod 1 through cross-piece 6 rigidly closed from the faces with washers 7. One washer 7 has axle 8 whereon big ratchet wheel 15 is mounted. Blocks 9 are fitted on the ends of cross-piece 6. Block 9 has spring- loaded lock 10 near axle 8 and low cantilever 12 with small ratchet wheel 13 mounted coaxially to gear 14 engaging with gearing 15 on the inner rim of wheel 16 secured with ring spring 18 connected with washer 7. Blocks 9 are interposed between A-shaped guides 20, one of which has high cantilever 21 with spring loaded lock 24 near the top dead center. When ratchet wheel 13 moves to the top dead center it comes upon lock 24 and rotates together with gear 14 which, in turn, rotates big ratchet wheel 16 by one tooth through gearing 15 and is fixed with lock 10. Wheel 16 effects on spring 18 which rotates washer 7 and cross-piece 6 by a small angle when cross-piece 6 is loosened owing to vibration. In the next stroke cross-piece 6 rotates in the same manner.
