ACTIVE RUDDER Russian patent published in 1995 - IPC

FIELD: shipbuilding. SUBSTANCE: active rudder has hollow blade 1 and hollow rudder stock 2, water conduit with two outlet branch pipes 3 which is located inside blade 1 and is open sternward, drive shaft 6 with bearing supports on which impellers 8 of opposite rotation are secured by inlet holes towards each other. Provided in center portion of rudder blade 1 (vertically) is through opening which receives frame 7 with diaphragm 13 secured to blade by means of detachable joint. Diaphragm 13 divides opening into upper and lower parts and partially closes the opening in cross section. Shaft consists of two parts connected by means of splined joint; impellers 8 are secured on lower part of shaft inside frame outlines. Bearing supports of drive shaft are mounted on diaphragms 13.
