FIELD: quality control; defectoscopy. SUBSTANCE: method involves exposing the area under control to ionizing radiation having the power greater than or equal to 82.9 keV, if mercuric chloride solutions are used as penetrant agent or the power is greater than or equal to 87.6 keV, if tetraethyl lead or tetramethyl lead solutions are applied as penetrant agent, before penetrant agent has been introduced. Photointensity of the scattered radiation is recorded. Then, penetrant is applied in heavy doses to the end faces of an area under control or into the technical borings to a prescribed depth and the area under control is repeatedly irradiated after holding it until the stratified spaces open (under bending, heating or cooling) and fluorescence radiation intensity is measured at the same points. Stratification area boundary and area are determined using counter readings difference. EFFECT: enhanced effectiveness in detecting stratification defects in multi-layer composite materials. 2 cl
