FIELD: oil and gas industry; oil production. SUBSTANCE: device has a body with a flange in its lower part. The body has a base, a thrust nut, and a cover. The components of the body are threaded together. The cover and the nut have taper bores. A sealing unit is located in the base, and there is a lateral tap beneath the unit. When operating to lower the pipes, wedges are placed in the taper bore of the cover for reliable holding. The wedges have shanks linked to a ring spring-loaded against the nut. In operating to lift the pipes, the wedges are placed in the taper bore of the nut. A thrust washer is placed between the spring and the nut. The ring and the nut have external radial T-shaped recesses for the shanks. The ring and the washer are mounted to be a mutual mirror image. The wedges are bevel in their upper part for engagement with couplings of the pipes. The wedges are in sliding engagement with the pipes. In lifting pipes, the device can operate as a spider.
