FIELD: refrigerating and fire extinguishing agent. SUBSTANCE: reaction conditions: Reagent 1: tetrahaloethylene or pentahaloethane or a mixture thereof. Reagent 2: an excess amount of HF. Synthesis conditions: hydrofluorination is conducted in a stationary bed of a metal containing hydrofluorination catalyst. The catalyst is preferably a chromium-magnesium fluoride catalyst or chromium on aluminium oxide. The temperature is 310-475 C, the molar ratio of HF to the product to be hydrofluorinated is 0.7-37:1. The contact time is 0.5-20 s. EFFECT: improved properties of the agent. 4 cl, 4 tbl
