FIELD: fish farming. SUBSTANCE: method involves taking measurements of active water pH and content of oxygen. The derived values are used in assessment of the trophic value of the reservoir using a formula provided in the description. The environmental condition of the water reservoir is evaluated by way of comparing the calculated trophic value to its numeric values for different environmental conditions: dystrophic (value less than 5.7), ultraligotrophic (value greater than 5.7 and smaller than 7.0), oligotrophic (approximately 7.0), mezotrophic (value greater than 7.0 and smaller than 8.3), or eutotrophic (value greater than 8.3).
