FIELD: processes for purifying sewage. SUBSTANCE: sewage containing chromium ions and other heavy metals is passed through a layer or zeolite pretreated with an oxalic acid solution with a concentration of 0.05 to 0.1 mole/l in the presence of mineral acid with a pH adjusted to 1-2. The process makes it possible to improve the degree of purification of sewage of six-valent chromium ions to 100% and to obtain a high degree of purification of sewage of other heavy metals. EFFECT: improved efficiency of purification of sewage of heavy metal ions due to additional recovery of six-valent chromium ions. 3 tbl
