FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of purifying waste water from chromium (VI) ions by adsorption and can be used in ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy, in production of chromium and compounds thereof and for purifying electroplating and leather manufacturing wastes. The method of purifying waste water from chromium (VI) ions includes passing waste water through an adsorbent layer with 0.5≤pH≤0.9. The adsorbent used is a carbon adsorbent with particle size of 0.5-2 mm with total porosity of not less than 0.5 cm3/g and specific surface area of not less than 500 m2/g, obtained from long-flame coal. Use of the present invention enables to purify waste water from chromium (VI) compounds in a single step (without reduction to chromium (III)) using readily available and cheap adsorbents, which do not require additional processing and provide complete quantitative removal of chromium (VI) ions.
EFFECT: high degree of purifying waste water from chromium (VI) ions owing to adsorption thereof on a carbon adsorbent.
