FIELD: purification of drinking water or industrial water from ions of heavy metals, petroleum products, phenol and surfactants. SUBSTANCE: siliceous rock having mixed mineral composition is used as natural adsorbent. Rock comprises, mas.%: opal-cristobalite, 3-50; zeolite, 7-25; clay component (montmorillonite, hydromica), 7-25; calcite, 10-28; detrital-sand-aleurite material, the balance. This rock is calcined at 300 $$$ 5 C and then it is affected by activation. The process is followed by treatment with 2 N solution of sodium chloride. EFFECT: increased dynamic capacity of adsorbent and its operation time. 2 tbl
