FIELD: purification of drinking water or industrial water from ions of heavy metals, petroleum products, phenol and surfactants. SUBSTANCE: siliceous rock having mixed mineral composition is used as natural adsorbent. Rock comprises, mas.%: opal-cristobalite, 30-49; zeolite, 7-25; clay component, 7-25; detrital-sand-aleurite material, the balance. Diameter of pores in adsorbent is 6.3-9.0 nm as calculated for benzene, their maximal sorption capacity is 0.025-0.045%. EFFECT: improved efficiency. 1 tbl
