FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: apparatus has an envelope, being sunk into a melt and having a ratio of its height to an area of its cross section surface, equal to 3-5000. The envelope is filled by fragments of alloying and killing metals and/or alloys, had been subjected to compaction and having bulk mass, being no less, than 1.05 of its value before the compaction. A fixing member is rigidly secured to an upper portion of the envelope to keep the envelope in an almost vertical position. The fixing member may be solid one, and it may be made of material, having a density more, than a density of the melt, or it may be in the form of a cantilever member. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of killing process. 3 cl, 4 dwg
