FIELD: continuous steel casting. SUBSTANCE: method involves manufacturing roller shaft and bandage having a set of rings, attachment for slide fitting of bandage onto shaft followed by surface quenching of bandage upon induction heating, with quenching zone being moved along roller shaft. Quenching zone is moved across width of each ring at variable speed, at the level of end surfaces of each bandage ring at speed making 0.3-0.7 of working speed and across portions adjoining each end surface of each bandage ring and making 0.10-0.35 of ring width, at speed, which is increased as quenching zone moves farther from this end surface. Quenching zone is moved at working speed in the middle portion of ring. EFFECT: increased efficiency and improved quality of roller. 3 cl, 2 tbl
