FIELD: engine engineering. SUBSTANCE: silencer has housing 1, inlet branch pipe 2, outlet opening 3, acoustical chambers 4 defined by shells 5, and reservoir 6 filled with water and mounted from the side of the silencer face and having perforated bottom 7 with porous bed 8 made of a hygroscopic material. Cylindrical shells 5 is made of a hygroscopic material as well. Spherical projections 9 of bed 8 is received in water space of reservoir 6 through holes of perforated bottom 7. The water from reservoir 6 impregnates bad 8 and then is distributed uniformly allowing shell 5 to be wetted. Hot exhaust gases, being in contact with wetted shells 5, is cooled. When exhaust gases are cooled inside the acoustical chambers, they reduce their velocity. EFFECT: enhanced silencing and reduced hydraulic resistance. 3 cl, 1 dwg
