FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: hemiformal of higher aliphatic or alicyclic alcohols is used as reagent 1. Reaction is carried out by thermal decomposition of hemiformals and by condensation. The latter process takes place in the presence of alcohol steam, mass ratio of alcohol steam and formaldehyde being 5: 1-1: 3. Linear rate of gas stream at inlet of heat exchanger is 5-30 m/s. Thus prepared condensate is sprayed the surface of said exchanger, specific density of said spraying at output of the exchanger being at least 2,5•10-5m3/s•m.
