FIELD: metallurgy, namely production of hot rolled strip of alloys, based on intermetallic compounds, containing rare-earth elements, and designed for making permanent magnets, which may be used, for example, in magnetic systems of commutator-free electric drive. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of preliminarily packing of cast billet of the above mentioned alloy in a copper or nickel foil before placing that billet in a steel envelope, in which the billet is being rolled. EFFECT: simplified way of removal of the steel envelope, enhanced quality of surface of the strip, had been rolled, lowered magnet cost. 1 tbl
