FIELD: technical physics. SUBSTANCE: invention may find use to plot horizontal geophysical system of coordinates on sea and land objects as well as on flying vehicles. Gyro horizon compass has one two-degree-of-freedom gyro placed into two-axle gimbal mount. Its outer axle is oriented along normal to deck (chassis) of object and sensitivity axle of accelerometer controlling precision movement of gyro is oriented along axis of kinetic moment of gyro. By this direction oriented relative to geographical meridian and deck of object is realized physically and inclination of deck in perpendicular plane to this direction is determined analytically by reading of another accelerometer and gyrotachometer located on internal platform of gimbal mount. Such design of compass contributes to increase of precision of determination and keeping of heading of object. Various proposed orientations of gyro relative to plane of horizon and direction of axis of rotation of the Earth makes it possible to manufacture variants of compass with specific properties useful for various customers.
