FIELD: methods of reactantless softening of natural and industrial waters. SUBSTANCE: apparatus for electrochemical softening of water has electrochemical cell with insoluble electrodes and cap of ions-exchanging resins additionally has mechanical filter and electrochemical cell has cation-exchanging membrane. Cap of ions-liquid material is in pseudoliquid state in alkaline chamber of electrochemical cell. Electrochemical cell additionally has alternating bipolar and cation-exchanging membranes, that form acid and alkaline chambers. Softened water is fed into alkaline chamber of electrochemical cell filled with pseudoliquid layer of ionite with speed of 0.1 - 1.0 cm/s and current density of 0.05 - 5.00 A/ dm. Then water is fed through mechanical filter and then - into acid chamber of electrochemical cell. EFFECT: increased productivity. 2 dwg, 2 tbl
