FIELD: electrical engineering; diesel-generator sets of vehicles. SUBSTANCE: method of field current regulation provides for forming hyperbolic selective characteristic by means of multiwinding magnetic amplifier, checking in range of maximum values of control voltages changing in proportion to voltage and current of diesel-generator set, and switching off of one of voltages under control when value of second voltage reaches preset maximum value. Method is implemented by device which has multiwinding magnetic amplifier, variable resistor, single-phase diode bridges, ballast resistors, capacitor, isolation diode and voltage relay.
