FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: method of measurement of length of cut (distance) is intended for measurement of lengths of practically unlimited value requiring enhanced precision of measurement under conditions hindering usage of micrometric gears or vernier dials or in case of their absence. In agreement with method cut which length exceeds length of measured cut and is equal to 2n standard measurement units is used as measurement standard. Process of measurement reduces to sequential comparison of measured cut with measuring standard of double length or with doubled positive remainder obtained by result of comparison. Code sequence in which symbols "I" are fixed in case of positive remainder or symbols "O" - in case of negative remainder is formed by results of comparison. In this case double cut or remainder are subjected to repeat doubling. As result of m doublings and comparison with standard m-digit binary code is formed in which first n symbols determine integral part of number of length units contained in measured cut, remaining m-n symbols present fractional part of number of length units where numerator is binary code from remaining m-n symbols and denominator is 2m-n.. EFFECT: enhanced precision of measurement.
