FIELD: production of strips and sections in ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves reducing metal in quarto mill with pairs of intersected working and supporting rolls, which are arranged so that twist angle is defined between them; providing axial movement of one roll toward the other in the process of metal reduction; cyclically changing twist angle of working rolls relative to supporting rolls, with cycle period being in proportion to motion time of axially movable working rolls and with cycle amplitude being repeatedly below intersection angle of supporting rolls. Quarto mill has frames, working and supporting rolls, roll twisting device and pressure device. Shaft of pressure device in frame clearance and opposed shaft of support are offset in different directions relative to frame vertical axis, with shift of left-hand and right-hand frames being oriented in opposite directions. Working and supporting rolls have equal diameters. EFFECT: increased efficiency, wider operational capabilities and enhanced reliability in operation. 6 cl, 7 dwg
