FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: claimed process can be used for removing vinylidene chloride from 1,1,1- fluorodichloroethane (cooling agent 141 b or hydrochlorofluorocarbon HCFC-141b) which is used as ozone-safe component in heat carriers, aerosols, pore generators, solvents and as inhalation anesthetic. The process comprises contacting cooling agent 141b in liquid phase with halogen. Halogen is gaseous fluorine. Contacting is carried out by bubbling the latter through cooling agent 141b being purified at pressure and temperature that allow cooling agent 141b to be present in liquid phase. Fluorine is used in amount of 1.2-5, preferably 2-3 moles per 1 mole of vinylidene chloride in the product being purified. Electrolytic fluorine which contains hydrogen fluoride can be used. The invention makes it possible to effectively purify cooling agent 141b without any losses during purification process. EFFECT: more efficient purification process. 4 cl, 1 tbl
