FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: described is purifying 1,1,1-fluorodichloroethane from vinylidene chloride by contacting with chlorine. Contacting is conducted with or without solid contact at room or elevated temperature and residence time sufficient for reacting vinylidene chloride with chlorine. Molar ratio of chlorine being fed to vinylidene chloride in the product to be purified is more than 5:1.
