FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: method involves catalytic hydrogenation of tetrafluoroethylene at increased temperature, preferably, at 160-250 C. Process is carried out under adiabatic conditions. The parent tetrafluoroethylene is fed to hydrogenation as a mixture with inert diluting agent, for example, coolant-134. Mole ratio coolant-134 : tetrafluoroethylene is maintained at the range 1-6 and that of hydrogen : tetrafluoroethylene - 0.9-1.2. Catalyst: palladium applied on aluminium alpha-oxide (corundum), preferably, industrial catalyst APK-2. For catalyst firing the parent a gaseous mixture is heated preliminary to at least 50 C. The yield of the end product is up to 99% and impurity content of by-side products (1,1,2-trifluoroethane and hydrogen fluoride) is nonsignificant. EFFECT: improved method of synthesis. 5 cl, 1 tbl
