FIELD: production of cooling agent. SUBSTANCE: liquid mixture of 1-fluoro-1,1-dichloroethane and 1,1-difluoro-1-chloroethane is brought into contact with tin tetrachloride, the process is carried out at elevated temperature and pressure, preferably at 50-150 C and 5-21 atm. Then thus prepared product is affected by distillation, hydrogen chloride being sorbed of it by water; organic products are neutralized, condensed and separated by rectification. During said contact additionally vinylydene chloride or 1,1,1-trichloroethane may be added, their quantity being up to 1.12 moles per 1 mole of HF.
