FIELD: mining and metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method consists in adding material to be separated into ferromagnetic liquid contained in chamber, applying magnetic field on this liquid, removing submerged heavy particles and floating light particles by means of water conveyed onto the surface of ferromagnetic liquid along inside walls of chamber. Separator has magnet system with working chamber including ferromagnetic liquid in the interpolar space, feeder, discharge arrangements and means for conveying water into chamber, which is made as a branch pipe with channels aligned toward inside chamber walls. EFFECT: achieved effective separation of materials by their density. 2 cl, 2 dwg
