FIELD: heat engineering; preparation of fresh water from sea water. SUBSTANCE: each other intermediate space between plates 4 in plate-type heat exchanger forms evaporating passage 28 and other intermediate spaces between plates 4 form condensing passages 4. Holes provided in plates 4 lie in one line forming intake passage through plate-type heat exchanger for introducing liquid to be evaporated in evaporating passages 28. To obtain wider area of intake hole in each condensing passage 30 and wider area of outlet hole in each evaporating passage 28, plate-type heat exchanger is placed in reservoir whose interior is divided into chambers by heat exchanger proper and by partition. Sealing devices 13 are located in intermediate spaces between plates in such way that evaporating passages 28 are closes for one chamber and are in communication with other chamber along edges of plates 4; condensing passages 30 are in communication with one chamber along edges of plates 4 but they are closed for other chamber.
