FIELD: manufacture of building materials. SUBSTANCE: stock containing an outer layer composed of quenched cullet and metal oxides and an inner layer composed of (in wt %) sand, up to 25; slag, up to 40; alumina, 5-7; binding agent, 2-8; and quenched cullet. Outer layer is applied directly onto the surface of inner layer preliminarily wetted with liquid glass. Heat treatment of stock includes heating to a temperature higher or equal to Littletone temperature of outer layer quenched cullet, incubation at this temperature, and two-step cooling with intermission at a constant temperature between the two steps. In the first step, cooling proceeds with velocity 10-30 C/min to upper anneal temperature. Minimization of gas release is achieved by introducing a liquid binder into the inner layer composition and pressing the layers. Stock is thermally treated in a mold or without mold preliminarily shaping it in dismountable form. Material of inner layer is supplemented with up to 40% of high-ignition substance, for example, sow dust, whose ignition temperature does not exceed 2/3 of maximum heat treatment temperature. Resultant article is characterized with high porosity of inner layer and low coefficient of heat conductivity. Cylindrical articles are manufactured in a rotating cylindrical mold. Into the stock outer layer, decorative components are introduced having the same coefficient of temperature expansion as that of glass.
