FIELD: mechanical engineering; engines. SUBSTANCE: external combustion engine has cylinder divided by piston and rod into two parts, each being connected through branch pipe with chamber filled with working gas (helium, argon, nitrogen, etc). Periodical heating and cooling of chambers, when one of chambers is heated by flow of gaseous fuel combustion products and second chamber is cooled by flow of cold air or water, leads to change in pressure in parts of cylinder connected with the chambers and provides reciprocating of piston with rod. Engine can operate on any fuel and can use for its operation flows of hot gases such as wastes of high-temperature sets or simply utilize head of chimney in wood burning heating system of country houses. Temperature differential in several scores of degrees is sufficient for operation of engine. EFFECT: enlarged operating capabilities. 2 cl, 1 dwg
