FIELD: production of layered composite coatings; applicable in mechanical engineering and other industries to enhance wear resistance of article friction surfaces. SUBSTANCE: method of deposition of wear-resistant coating includes thermal disintegration of vapors of metal carbonyl on the hot base at low pressure with deposition of two layers of metal selected from groups YI-YIII of Periodic system. The first layer of coating is deposited from metal selected from groups YII-YIII 3-5 mcm thick at base temperature of 600-900 C, residual pressure of 0.5-1.0 mm Hg, and growth rate of 1-2 mcm/min. The second layer is deposited from metal selected from groups YI-YII of the same thickness at base temperature of 300-450 C, residual pressure of 0.5 mm Hg and less, and growth rate of 0.3-0.5 mcm/min. The above-indicated stages are repeated to obtain the coating of the needed thickness. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 1 tbl
