FIELD: waste water purification. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to dehydration and disinfecting of disperse media and can be utilized when building sewage disposal plants for treating wastes formed in waste water purification process. Method of treating sediment involves its successive dehydration and disinfecting, the former process being carried out by way of gravitational settling with periodically removing over-sludge water and subsequently compressing sediment with periodical stirring and blowing with air of over- sediment space, whereas disinfecting of compressed sediment is carried out at 55 C. Apparatus consists of closed heat-insulated casing with enclosed therein float chamber, water-withdrawing unit, discharge unit, and threshing device. Casing is provided with pipes for loading original sediment and air, branch pipe for removing air, door for discharging treated sediment, and heating elements. Float chamber is installed for vertical displacement and provided with inlet and outlet air fittings. Water-withdrawing unit is made in the form of telescopically interrelated water-withdrawing pipe and funnel mounted for vertical displacement. Discharge unit is made as a worm and is connected with drive and door for discharging sediment. Heating elements are disposed on outer surface of the casing bottom. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of sediment treatment, increased reliability of operation due to elimination of replaceable structure members, and reduced effort and power consumption. 6 cl, 2 dwg
