FIELD: chemistry of nitroaromatic compounds. SUBSTANCE: nitration of naphthalene is carried out at 60-65 C. The process is carried out in solvent in the presence of zeolite having high content of silicium dioxide. 70 % nitric acid is used as nitration agent. Mentioned above zeolite comprises 0.34-0.45 molar % of Na2O, 95.6-97.5 molar % of SiO2, 1.16-1.74 molar % of Al2O3 and 1.00-2.16 molar % of Fe2O3. Desired mixture comprises 94.0-95.6 % of 1-nitronaphthalene, 3.6-3.9 % of 2-nitronapthalene and 0.3-2.4 % of impurities, ratio of 1-nitronaphthalene and 2-nitronaphthalene is 24.5-26. Degree of conversion of naphthalene is 99.5-100 %. EFFECT: improved efficiency.
