FIELD: preparation of nitrobenzene stock for synthesis of aniline, benzidine, quinoline, and azobenzene. SUBSTANCE: benzene is nitrated with 65-70% nitric acid on alumosilicates (ZSM-5 and ZSM-11 modified with iron oxides) and/or glass granular packing at 70-90 C under continuous conditions at nitric acid to benzene molar ratio of 1.4- 4.5. Alumosilicates are used many times and unreacted benzene and nitric acid are recycled for nitration. Yield is 39-82%. EFFECT: continuous benzene and nitric acid closed cycle conditions, reaction is accelerated by 2-2!5 times, catalyst efficiency increased by 1!2-3!5 times, and yield is increased by 1!1-2!4 times. 3 cl, 1 tbl
