METHOD FOR SYNTHESIS OF MONO- AND DIPHTHALONITRILES Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

FIELD: organic chemistry and technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to carboxylic acid nitriles, in part, method of synthesis mono- and diphthalonitriles of the formula where: y - oxide or sulfide bridge; n = 1 or 2. At n = 1 Ar - aromatic radical where R - H, C(CH₃)₃, Hal, COOH; at n = 2 Ar - divalent aromatic radical or where x - simple bond or bridges O, S, CO, SO₂, CZ₂, CZ(CZ₃), C(CZ₃)₂; z - H or Hal. Method of synthesis involves interaction of 4-nitrophthalonitrile with mono- and bis-phenols and thiophenols in the presence of K₂CO₃ in 75% aqueous dimethylformamide at 40-95 C followed by reaction mixture cooling, filtration, filtrate distillation under decreased pressure and utilization of the regenerated solvent in the following syntheses, vat residue for staining and wood deresination. Synthesized compounds were used for synthesis di- and tetracarboxylic acids and the corresponding anhydrides, phthalocyanines, polyphthalocyanines, polyhexazocyclanes and polyimides.
