FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy, production of aluminium by electrolysis of cryolite- alumina melts. SUBSTANCE: voltage across electrolyzer is increases to 6.0-9.5 V, mixture is held at this voltage and liquid electrolyte is deposited without anode effect. Pouring of liquid electrolyte into electrolyzer during putting in operation is carried out after buttering of electrolyte from starting raw material in volume of 0.5-0.2 height of shaft. Level of melt during starting period is maintained at 0.4-0.6 height of shaft. Filling of shaft above level of melt is kept by loading of components of starting raw material over perimeter of shaft. EFFECT: prolonged service life and increased productivity of electrolyzer, reduced consumption of electricity, release of harmful substance to atmosphere and labour input. 4 cl, 2 tbl
