METHOD OF MOUNTING BOTTOM OF ALUMINIUM ELECTROLYZER Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

Abstract RU 2088696 C1

FIELD: equipment for electrochemical processes. SUBSTANCE: invention concerns electrolytic production of aluminium from cryolite-silica smelts, in particular, improved method of mounting electrolyzer cathode unit. When mounting electrolyzer bottom, including filling lower part of interunit seams with bottom mass whose level is below that of working surface of bottom units and using boric anhydride for inhibiting carbon of interunit seams, layer of boric anhydride is placed onto surface of carbon-containing bottom mass into cavity of lower part of interunit seam before silica is charged into upper part of the cavity. Amount of used boric anhydride may constitute no more than 50% of charged silica volume. Boric anhydride may be placed into cavity of interunit seam also as component of silica charge. EFFECT: facilitated procedure. 3 cl, 1 tbl
