FIELD: water transport; ship's propellers for active control or motion including reserve control or motion. SUBSTANCE: propeller has cylindrical housing with working wheel arranged inside it; swivel inlet and outlet branch pipe are turnable through at least 180 deg. Propeller housing extends beyond hull lines by part of its cross section. Axes of turn of branch pipes and planes of symmetry may coincide and their inlet and outlet sections may be located on one side from axis of working wheel. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of propeller due to use of incoming flow during operation; enhanced propulsive efficiency of propeller due to closing of inlet and outlet holes in ship's hull when propeller is inoperative. 7 cl, 1 dwg
